Biography

Szilard Gaspar

( born in 1991, Romania )

He is a sculptor and a professional boxer. From a very young age, he pursues these two paths with the same commitment and intensity. Influenced by the Gutaï and the Western performance of the 70s, between action and concept, he expresses through each of its creations the energy deployed in a fight. Sublimating this energy in matter and then in a work of art, the artist expresses all personal experiences that accumulate and constitute our body as well as our soul.

"In my studio, I am a normal sculptor. But during the action, at the moment when I put on my gloves, all this disappears.
For each performance, I prepare myself as for a competition, with daily workouts. I grew up in a sporting and artistic environment. I have 130 official boxing matches to my credit.
The sculpture is first made of clay. Each boxing bag weighs about 250-300 kg. Then, thanks to precise techniques of sculpture, I take a molding, or a negative, in which I pour various materials. For larger works I use fiberglass and for smaller objects, such as gloves, I use bronze. "
