Biography
Chuang Che,
( born in 1934, Beijing, China)
Lives and works in New York City since 1973.
Chuang Che was one of the pioneer of the contemporary Chinese abstraction. Student of Chu Teh Chun from 1954 in Taïwan, in 1958 he joined the Fifth Moon Group, of which he will be one of the main actor. Laureate of the Rockfeller foundation in 1966, he went to New York and then travelled around Europe, meeting Zao Wou-Ki, Chu Teh-Chun, Antoni Tapiès. These meetings confimed his desire to emancipate from tradition to better pay hommage to it. From 1973, he isolated himself in a farm in Michigan. For fourteen years, he was creating abstract works - expression of the deep relation to the nature. He has explored the possibilities and limits of different materials : ink, acrylic and oil. The artists plays on the transparency or the opacity of these materials to give the impression of the strenghth of natural elements.
