Helena Hafemann
Biography
(Born in 1997, in Wiesbaden, Germany)
Helena Hafemann is pursuing studies in fine arts and art history at the School of Fine Arts and at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, Germany. She is undertaking a double major in ethnology and fine arts.
Her artistic work explores the visualization and transformation of social values, with a particular emphasis on the dignity of materials. She uses everyday objects, freeing them from their original function to reinterpret them artistically. For example, in her Fadenschein series, she connects fragments of broken porcelain with delicate threads, creating a visual and conceptual connection between destruction and beauty.
Since 2019, she has co-directed the Kunstraum Wiesbaden, an exhibition space in Germany, in collaboration with designer Max Vizard. In 2021, she also took on the curatorial direction of Kunstraum Wiesbaden II, also in
Germany.
Helena Hafemann has received several awards, including the 14th ZONTA Mainz Art Prize in 2023 and a CAA scholarship the same year. She has also participated in international exhibitions, notably at the Lee-Bauwens Gallery in Brussels in 2024 and at the Centre of Contemporary Art Znaki Czasu in Torun, Poland, in 2023.
