Bernadette Bour

Bernadette Bour - Matière-Couleur

from October 15th to 11.27.2019

Galerie Penthièvre

On the occasion of the reopening of the City of Paris Museum of Modern Art and the hanging of her work, Bernadette Bour, a major abstract artist from the 1970s to the 1990s, finally rejoins the museum walls alongside Daniel Buren, Pierre Soulages, Jean-Pierre Pincemin and Richard Serra.

In parallel, historical works will be presented at the gallery, at the 24 rue de Penthièvre Paris 8th, from October 15 to November 16, 2019.

The work of Bernadette Bour is moved by a desire to sublimate the pictorial medium (canvas, paper, blotter) thanks to a long process of perforation, sewing and color diffusion. A double movement can be observed, from one series to another, between a compact and monochromatic gravity and a luminous lightness made of threads and signs.

Through tearing, superposition and perforation, she deploys a new abstract rhythm in monumental works entirely "dranw on the sewing machine". By pricking the thread on the surface, the artist suggests a subtle writing and a silent homage to women's work.
