Art fair

On the occasion of the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations between France and Korea, the 9th edition of Printemps Asiatique is dedicated to Korea. The gallery is very pleased to take part for the first time in this gathering, held from June 4 to 8 at the Charpentier Gallery.

All of the artists have moved beyond the strictly figurative academicism of traditional art in order to inscribe themselves within the history of international art, developing an aesthetic shaped in counterpoint to their personal histories and the upheavals of Korean society.

Having suffered through conflicts with Japan and later the war between the two Koreas, Bang Hai Ja and Kim En Joong developed profoundly spiritual universes in which inner space becomes a response to the violence of History and the traumas of war.

For his part, Jang Kwang Bum responds to the accelerated Americanization of Korean society by rehabilitating traditional lacquer techniques and paying tribute to the singular mountainous geography of his country.

In Hur Kyung-Ae's work, the trauma of the Gwangju events is transformed, through material and vibrant colors, into an oeuvre of healing and salvation.

Finally, Kwon Inkyung reveals the world of intimacy as a last refuge against the depersonalized and dehumanized world of contemporary megacities.
