Galerie Françoise Livinec is delighted to announce its first participation in the 40th edition of Art Brussels, which will take place from 25 to 28 April 2024 at Brussels Expo.
At the invitation of Louis-Philippe Van Eeckhoutte, curator in charge of the Rediscoveries section, the gallery is paying tribute to the avant-garde vision of gallery owner Iris Clert by highlighting three emblematic artists who took part in the iconic "Large Women Small Formats" exhibition in 1974: Louise Barbu (1931 - 2021), Elga Heinzen (b. 1933) and Zuka (1924 - 2016).
For Iris Clert, what these women have in common is that they "already exist, each, separately, individually, freely". Fifty years on, we would like to remind you of the audacity of the gallery owner's choices. At the time, the works of Elga Heinzen and Louise Barbu were considered too erotic, and those of Zuka too political.
