Galerie 24 Penthievre
To coincide with the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, Galerie Françoise Livinec is presenting a groundbreaking exhibition of international artists in its two spaces at 24 and 30 rue de Penthièvre, in the heart of the 8th arrondissement and as close as possible to the sporting events. Caught between two worlds, the works of these creators shift the boundaries between figuration and abstraction, art from here and there, Arts and Crafts and conceptual art, tradition and the avant-garde.
Whether born in Asia, South America, Africa or Europe, they all chose to come to Paris, following a multitude of migratory patterns. What followed was a period of adaptation and, above all, adoption. For these artists, already trained by the greatest masters of their native countries, the arrival in the capital of the arts was accompanied by the discovery of the self through the prism of otherness. Like novelist Victor Segalen's Exote (1878-1919), these artists, armed with their own culture, confronted it with that of Paris, where the arts and ideas of the world had been constantly influencing each other for centuries. From this rupture was born an ?aesthetic of diversity? and encounter, at the crossroads of modernist and contemporary Western art and the artistic traditions of the East and Far East.
